Stuhr Museum

 The Stuhr Museum has a collection of local history to see, both inside and outside; 208 acres of prairie, 107 buildings, 140, 456 historic artifacts. We spent 2.5 hours here and could have easily spent more time, there is a lot to see and learn. (Click on photo to enlarge)

Day 49 - Oakley, KS to Kansas City, KS

Day 49 - Today's plan is to drive 430 miles in 8 hours across the state of Kansas. We started our morning with breakfast at Kansas Country Inn, ATM stop, then we hit the road.  After a couple hours we stopped at Nicodemus National Historic Site . It is the oldest and only remaining Black Settlement west of the Mississippi. The stories and history of this place made it a worthwhile stop. From here we were definitely in a food desert. Julie and Tripadvisor finally found a place that was a bit off our travel path, but with 5 star reviews we decided it was worth the detour. Grate Expectations in Burr Oak, KS was definitely an interesting place in a very small town (population 140). The people were friendly and the food was good. From Burr Oak, we traveled another 4.5 hours through farm country to our Townhouse Airbnb ; in Kansas City, Kansas. This looked like a brand new home near the Kansas Speedway. Day 45 - Flagstaff, AZ to Bluff, UT

Day 45   - Today's plan is to drive 245 miles in 7.5 hours. This is an exciting day for me because we are visiting Monument Valley. (Click on any photo to enlarge) We started our day in Flagstaff with a delicious breakfast. Again, Tripadvisor and Julie selected a perfect place near to where we stayed Brandy's Restaurant and Bakery .  On this May 31st morning the temperature was 38 degrees. We started out on Rte 66, then took Highway 89, it was a short drive to Elden Pueblo Archeological Site  where we enjoyed meandering through the ruins. Elden Pueblo is a site of the Ancient Sinagua People for around A.D 1070 to 1275. Continuing on Highway 89 to US 160 was a beautiful drive with evergreen trees, valleys and winding roads. These hills reminded me of the Painted Desert. Near intersection of Hwy 89 and US 160 Turning on US 160, then US 163 we found Amigo's Cafe . Oregon - Week 1

The tent is pitched. We are with family and we are happy to be here. (Click on any photo to enlarge)   Day 1 - Woke up in the tent this drizzly morning, temperature 46F degrees. Slept pretty good last night. Could hear the neighbors wind chimes on and off during the night. Made a couple batches of coffee in our French press.  It was nice to be with family and not have to go anywhere. We did go to Schmizza Public House for Dinner. Day 2 - We found a place to eat breakfast at Kevin's Cafe .   After we headed to Waterloo County Park . We found a nice 1.2 mile walking path on Alltrails , full of wildflowers and birds. We spent nearly 2 hours here.  This was a special place that we will create another page for. Lots of wildflower and bird photos! https://travelingvtjs.blogspot.com/p/waterloo-county-park.html . Day 3 - 49 degrees and raining this morning. We found Randy's Main Street Coffee in Brownsville, the food was delicious....
