Day 30 - Eureka, CA to Belmont, CA
Our morning started admiring the gardens and some birding at Eureka Garden Bungalow Airbnb. Today's plan is to drive 311 miles in 7 hours.
Eureka, CA is a beautiful city with lot of old architecture. Julie and I enjoyed driving the streets and looking at the Victorian Houses. We ate breakfast downtown at Ramone's Bakery & Cafe.
Eric Hollenbeck restores Victorian Homes; he has a show called "The Craftsman" on Magnolia Network that we watch. We wanted to visit Blue Ox Millwork his place of business and check it out. Though this photo doesn't show it, Julie was downright giddy to meet Eric. We spent an hour here and could have easily spent more time.
This is another special place and deserves a separate page. https://travelingvtjs.blogspot.com/p/blue-ox-millworks-and-historic-village.html
On our way out of town we searched out two California Covered Bridges, Zane's Ranch Bridge and Berta's Ranch Bridge. Google Maps led us on another goose chase, but after turning back from another class 4 road we were able to find both.
Then on to the Avenue of the Giantsin Humboldt Redwoods State Park
Using TripAdvisor Julie found us a nice little place to order sandwiches Amillia's. They suggested that we go to nearby Southern Humboldt Community Park to eat, so we did. It was peaceful and relaxing and we enjoyed the country setting. The sandwiches were delicious!
We were running behind schedule so we made a direct drive to our Business Travel Garden Bliss Airbnb where we were staying for a week. We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge on the way!
